I’m working on documenting the ways that SaGa Frontier changed during development (8/96 – 7/97)

Like the title says, I’m documenting SaGa Frontier’s public development changes. I was inspired to do this after I saw some footage of the game from a video of Tokyo Game Show 1996. The ultimate goal of this project is to gain a better understanding of what SaGa Frontier might have looked like when it was first unveiled at TGS 1996.

I have created a page here so I can document the things I have found so far and things I need to get my hands on to get further documentation. I have some exciting things currently shipping to me from Japan (that won’t get here until January cuz pandemic), so be sure to keep an eye on this page.

I got another Lute PB and moved up to 3rd place! 37:48!!!

This run was bad. Lost 50-ish seconds to a bad Shingrow (as per usual) and made some mistakes in the Mondo fight that cost me upwards of a minute on top of a semi-bad Mosperiburg. Once I get good RNG, 35 will be free.

Anyway, here’s the run:

I GOT THE EMELIA WORLD RECORD 27:21 LET’S GO!!!

HOLY SHIT I DID IT!!! After 4 months of grinding (ignoring the fact that I’ve only grinded for a month total), I finally got the record. The previous world record holder, cl_op_s, held the record for just over 3.5 years. I am the first American to hold the record in this category. I have broken a 12 year curse.

Here’s the historic run:

I somehow got a new Lute PB! 38:33!!!

Fun fact: this run was worse than my old PB, but PB’d anyway cuz I played this on a PSP. I had the world’s worst Dragons fight, Grand Mondo phase 3 was almost unrecoverable, and phase 5 was a near-disaster. Anyway, here’s the run:

I made an explanation for the Emelia Showdown; what it is, how it’ll run, and how you can apply.
